Next week, the annual 30-Second Showcase is coming back to WNH and the 9:20 Special!

The concept is simple! Get together with a friend -- or two, or three, or ten, or... go solo! Choose a piece of swing music of your liking and truncate it to 30-75 seconds; then come up with some favorite moves to go with the music. Perform to a supportive, elated crowd on Ocbober 15th at WNH and/or on October 16th at 9:20 Special! Be sure to contact Lori Taniguchi for WNH, or Nicole Zuckerman for 9:20 to indicate your interest.

LIVE BAND on October 22nd! Usually we don't have more than one band a month, but Emily Asher's Garden Party are coming from New York, and are just too awesome to pass. They are a treat!

1. THIS WEEK: October Series Continue! BALBOA! DJ Eliott!

Nothing too special this week... except for the classes with world-renowned instructor Carla Heiney, and a chance to dip into the awesome world of Balboa! Even if you're not registered for the series this month -- these classes are well worth dropping in to. Then dance your shoes off to the jolly tunes by DJ Eliott!

*** LEVEL 2: 6- & 8-count Remixed w/ Lori & Doug ***
When the worlds of 8- and 6-count swing collide, amazing dancing results! Join us in learning some of the classic and awesome 6/8 count moves you see on the dance floor. You might think we'll be baking, with moves that include words like "roll" and "sugar", and you won't be far off as we explore the recipe for mixing them into more texture-rich dancing!

# PRE-REQUISITES: Execute a swingout, lindy circle, charleston and 6-count moves and transition between them in open and closed positions. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!

*** LEVEL 3: Connected Rhythm Games w/ Carla & Gilles ****
Join Carla & Gilles this October to learn new fun rhythms to expand your dancing movement vocabulary and get your partner connection to the next level. We will focus on partnership connection and get you to understand what feels best for your partner.

# PRE-REQUISITES: At least nine consecutive months of Level 1 and Level 2 including one full year of social dance, or discuss your eligibility with instructors. Under-qualified students will be asked to transfer to Level 2 in order to strengthen their fundamentals.

*** LEVEL 1: 6-count Lindy Hop w/ Carla & Gilles ***
Start dancing from day one! We will get you moving in this month-long series that will make you an expert on basic footwork, turns, wraps, breaks and jazzy stylin'. Includes 6 and 8-count moves, an introduction to the swing-out foundation, and more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

# PRE-REQUISITES: None. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!

*** ELECTIVE: Balboa Fundamentals w/ Margot & Richard ***
Originating in the Balboa Peninsula of Orange County, Balboa combines intricate footwork with smooth body movement, to create a dynamic and fast-paced dance that is fun to watch but even more fun to do! For everyone who wants to learn -- or revisit -- Balboa fundamentals, this four week series will get you up to speed with basic vocabulary and connection techniques, and get you out on the floor dancing Bal socially. We'll be covering the basic Balboa rhythm and core Pure Balboa and Bal-Swing figures, in preparation for the 7-week progressive series starting in November.

# PRE-REQUISITES: None. Please note that November-December 7-week series will build on the material taught in October.

WNH welcomes individuals of 24 years or younger! Show proof of age 24 or younger at the front desk for 50% off the regular price of series classes. Dances are also discounted to a admission cost. Drop-in classes are not discounted.

Wednesday Night Hop offers value pre-paid punch cards for entrance to the dance only. Each card gets you 10 admissions to the dance party be it a band night or a special party or performance. No more messing around with cash at the door. Just present your card and sign in!
