Last week's sock-hop was a smashing good time with great music, costumes, and games; this week we are going to keep the fun rolling with our first of two live bands in a row. A great big thanks to all who came out for our Summer Swing 2010 and made it such a great success. Last week's classes with Gabe and Andrea were a fantastic finale on the whole summer. We hope you had as much fun as we did.
This week, for the 5th Wednesday of the month, Pinar and Adam will lead drop-in workshop classes that will prove to be a fantastic time. Come out and beat your feet till your feet are beat.

1. THIS WEEK: September 29th - Live Band: Solomon Douglas Quartet!

Come on out for a not-to-be-missed treat! Solomon Douglas is a jazz pianist and bandleader, whose various bands have played at more than fifty exchanges, camps, workshops, and other events in North America, Asia, and Australia in the past ten years. His experience as a swing dancer and dance instructor gives him an understanding unique among musicians of the music that swing dancers and blues dancers like to dance to!
We're happy to have Solomon play for us while he's in town. His unique knowledge of both dancing and music makes his arrangements perfect for dancing.
We also have one of our favorite DJs, DJ Trevor, spinning the band breaks.

2. September 5th week drop-in classes with Adam & Pinar!

This 5th week of the month, we have some great new classes. In Level 1, Pinar & Adam will share some of their lindy hop wisdom in their address of the graduating class of Summer Swing 2010. Level 2 will explore various ways of traveling across the lindy hop floor with finesse.

Many of you are ready to graduate from Level 1 after months of lessons in 8-count, 6-count and charleston. In this class, you will learn that lindy hop is not about counts, but about music and moving to the music... that the best dancers are like another instrument in the band. Come and learn how to listen to swing music and how to best accompany it with your dancing. Use the building blocks you've been learning in the months prior to form sentences and then, learn some punctuation: moves that will make your phrases complete and meaningful.

Many times we get stuck in a rut, literally, with our dancing... Join Pinar and Adam as they teach you how to shake it up and take some space on the dance floor! We'll be teaching all our favorite traveling moves to get you weaving around and circling the floor, as well as all the floor-craft and manners you need to know to perform them confidently. So grab your coat, and get your hat... the Lindy train is taking off!

We've got another amazing band coming in the first week of October; the California Honeydrops. These guys always bring the house down, and we don't get them very often so don't miss out on this great oportunity. As the band says "Our mission is to get the whole crowd participating and singing along, and we want them partying. It's about feeling good - everybody together."

4. Upcoming Event: $400 Harvest Moon Jack & Jill Derby!

Wednesday Night Hop presents the $400 Harvest Moon Jack and Jill Derby! This Lindy Hop competition is open to all amateur level competitors. If you are not sure whether you qualify, please ask.
The $400 Harvest Moon Jack and Jill Swing Derby consists of 6 preliminary rounds and 1 final round. Enter prelims many times, until you qualify for the finals; it's only $3.
Prizes:
- 1st place finalists: $200 each to the top Jack and top Jill
Additional prizes will include lindy hop event passes (T.B.D.) and Wednesday Night Hop dance cards (valued $70) for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finalists.

WNH welcomes individuals of 24 years and younger! Show proof of age 24 and younger at the front desk for half off the price of series classes. If you are over 24 years old, but still carry enough credits to qualify as a full-time student, you are still eligible for the discount. Bring in your full-time class schedule for that semester or quarter to get the discount. Dances are also discounted to a $5 admission cost. Drop-in classes are not discounted.
Discount policy for 24 and younger or full-time students:
$25 for series classes (regularly $50)
$14 or $15 for drop-in classes (same as regular price)
$5 for the dance only (regularly $7 or $10 on band night)
