So awesome! Last week the dance floor was packed as we danced the night away with the Solomon Douglas Quartet and DJ Trevor! The Swing Cats Rhythm Revue knocked our socks off, the birthday jam was HUGE, and we were pleased to see so many "old timers" come back for a visit. Oh yeah! In addition, Margaret Winters baked us some delicious cookies. Whew!
This week Trevor & Audrey will continue their fantastic series classes for August, and then on August 19th we will have a fabulous 1950's Sock Hop! Don't miss out!

August Classes

Level 1 - 20's Charleston & Beyond - with Trevor & Audrey
8:00 - 9:00pm
Flappers and Speakeasies and the roaring 20's! This bygone era is characterized by a style of swing dancing that is still a part of Lindy Hop today. Sometimes called face-to-face Charleston, this style of dance is done in closed position and roots the Lindy Hop in a never-ending pulse. From this position, the dancers started to stretch away from each other and Lindy Hop was born! In this class, we will show you how 20's Charleston and Lindy Hop link up as well as give you some classic jazz movement like "Shorty George" and "Boogie Back". Don't be a "Palooka". Take this class and you'll be the "Bee's Knees"!
Level 2 - "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon" Means That You're Grand! - with Trevor & Audrey
7:00 - 8:00pm
Charleston, Lindy Turns, Dips, Jumps, Connection Exercises, Musicality - It's all part of Lindy Hop and it's time to put it all together. If you feel as though you have learned all the basics in the beginning class, here is where you will refine what you have learned and synthesize it into a fun routine to remember all the pieces of the puzzle and grab hold of some new and fun ways to transition between them. Though it is a routine, lead and follow will be constantly emphasized and performance is not a requirement.

8:00pm - Level 1 Beginning Lindy Hop ($40 series/$14 drop-in)

$60 to take both Level 1 & 2 series classes
$21 to drop in both Level 1 & 2

3. Go Back To School with our 1950's Sock Hop

Cherry hot rods, greasers and nerds! Let's go to the hop! Pull out your letterman jackets or poodle skirts, drop a nickel in the jukebox, and let's boogie woogie. We gotta milk every last drop of summer lovin' out of these hot August nights!
What better way to usher in the coming school year than to throw our cares away one more time! Come dressed in your best 50's style dress fully flared and fabulous! Guys can be Nerds or Jocks or Greasers, come as you are, come one come all. Enter our "Best Dressed" contest and strut your stuff!
Special performances and fun to be had! Special discount when you present your student ID at the door ($5 dance and $10 lesson). We'll be well into our series classes but it's never too late to drop in and learn something new! You are always welcome. Come join the party on Wednesday, August 19th!

4. Swing Dance for Life

Dance All Day and Raise Money For Cancer Research & Treatment!
Swing Dance for Life is a day-long swing dance fundraiser benefiting cancer research and treatment taking place on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at City College San Francisco. The event is a satellite fundraiser of the 24-Hour Cancer Dance-A-Thon.
Whether it's your first time dancing or you've been doing it a while, come out and enjoy over 5 hours of dance workshops with top bay area instructors, a 1:1 Swing Clinic, and a Saturday Night Dance with LIVE BANDS...all while raising money for a great cause!
All staff, teachers, and DJs are volunteers, and bands are sponsored by many of your local swing dance venues. 100% of the event proceeds will go directly to the 24-Hour Cancer Dance-A-Thon, a yearly regional fundraiser that supports cancer research and treatment at the City of Hope Hospital.
Wednesday Night Hop instructors Trevor, Audrey, and Andrea O will be participating as instructors at the event. We hope to see you there!
