5th Week Specialty Classes

Level 1: Musicality 101 - with Gabe & Andrea W.
8:00 - 9:00pm
In this 5th week specialty class, Gabe & Andrea will cover the basics of dancing with the music Topics will include, finding the beginning of phrases, song beginnings and endings, and breaks. In addition to these ideas, we will also discuss how to dance to the more subtle feelings of the music. This class will be fun and widely applicable to dancers of all skill levels.
Level 2: Multiple Choice Swingouts Continued - with Gabe & Andrea W!
7:00 - 8:00pm
Back by popular demand, Gabe and Andrea will continue to de-construct the swingout in this 5th week class. We will continue to show many more ways to swing it out! You will learn more ways to fit together the many styles and variations of the venerable swing-out. This class will give you the ability to vary the texture, technique and timing of each swing-out to match your partner, mood and music. We will cover as many variations as time permits.

On Wednesday, August 5th, we are happy to bring you the Solomon Douglas Quartet! This band plays a mixture of musical styles including blues, old-school swing, and groovy mainstream swinging jazz with tinges of bop and soul-jazz. Please invite your family and friends and join us for a fun-filled night of LIVE music!

3. August Classes

Level 1 - 20's Charleston & Beyond - with Trevor & Audrey
8:00 - 9:00pm
Flappers and Speakeasies and the roaring 20's! This bygone era is characterized by a style of swing dancing that is still a part of Lindy Hop today. Sometimes called face-to-face Charleston, this style of dance is done in closed position and roots the Lindy Hop in a never ending pulse. From this position the dancers started to stretch away from each other and Lindy Hop was born! In this class we will show you how 20's Charleston and Lindy Hop link up as well as give you some classic jazz movement like "Shorty George" and "Boogie Back". Don't be a "Palooka"; Take this class you'll be the "Bee's Knees"!
Level 2 - "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon" Means That You're Grand! - with Trevor & Audrey

Charleston, Lindy Turns, Dips, Jumps Connection Exercises, Musicality - It's all part of Lindy Hop and it's time to put it all together. If you feel as though you have learned all the basics in the beginning class, here is where you will refine what you have learned and synthesize it into a fun routine to remember all the pieces of the puzzle and grab hold of some new and fun ways to transition between them. Though it is a routine, lead and follow will be constantly emphasized and performance is not a requirement.

If you or someone you know is interested in getting a good foundation in Lindy Hop this summer, we are offering great deal! Three months of Beginning Level 1 Lindy Hop for the price of two! Starting July 1st and running through September 30th, this deal also includes two special topic drop-in classes in the months of July and September as well as admission to the dance and any band nights within the months of July, August and September.
