1. THIS WEEK: April 22nd - Dance Party! DJ Scott!! Food & Fun!!!

Did you know ... ?
- Frankie Manning created the first air step (aerial) in 1935.
- Lindy Hop is the grandfather of many Swing dances including: East Coast Swing, Balboa, Shag, and others.
- The San Francisco Bay area has Swing Dance venues from the City, to East Bay, the Peninsula, and beyond.
- Wednesday Night Hop has existed for four years, in three locations, and often has visitors from around the country and the world.
Whew! All of that information just makes you want to jump onto the dance floor. And here's your chance! This week we have DJ Scott, wonderful classes, plenty of food and fun!
Of course, remember to check the newsletter and website for details about our upcoming events, including live Band Night, Student Night, dance contests, and some special summer fun. And, let us know if you ever have any questions or suggestions. In addition, our new dance party hours started this month: 9:00 - 11:30pm! It's you, our awesome participants, who make Wednesday Night Hop the hottest dance party around. We'll see you out on the dance floor!

2. April Classes & Workshops

Level 1: 20's Charleston with Gabe & Andrea W.
8:00 - 9:00pm
This class will start with the basics of leading, following and rhythm. We will then cover the 20's Charleston basic in various positions, with and without partners. Building upon this foundation, we will add many fun and
useful moves and combinations. Prepare to learn a lot and have a great time!
Level 2: Balboa with Gabe & Andrea W.
7:00 - 8:00pm
This series will cover all of the foundations of Balboa, including moves technique and musicality. Balboa is a compact dance that is done in a close, upright embrace with small footwork. Though we will not assume any
previous knowledge of Balboa, we recommend this series to intermediate Lindy Hoppers.
April 29th - Special 5th Week Workshops

Level 1: 20's Advanced Connection for Beginners with Gabe & Andrea W.
8:00 - 9:00pm
Have you ever wondered why some moves just do not work? Are you confused by the terms 'lead', 'follow', 'connection', and 'frame'? In this class, we will demystify these terms and teach you the advanced connection needed to execute difficult moves with ease. We will take you behind the smoke and mirrors of advanced Lindy Hop and put you on the fast-track to being a great dancer.

Level 2: Multiple Choice Swing-outs with Gabe & Andrea W.
7:00 - 8:00pm
In this specialty class, Gabe & Andrea W. will show you that there is more than one way to swing it out! You will learn to fit together the many styles and variations of the venerable swing-out. This class will give you the ability to vary the texture, technique and timing of each swing-out to match your partner, mood and music. We will cover as many variations as time permits.

Clint Baker & the Café Borrone All-Stars

They wowed us in February and they're back to share more of their wonderful music! For over 17 years, Clint Baker has led a New Orleans style jazz ensemble at the Cafe Borrone in Menlo Park. Selecting only the best traditional jazz musicians to perform with him gives listeners the opportunity to be entertained by extraordinary music. The group is comprised of band leaders and key members of world class traditional jazz bands. The regular members of the Cafe Borrone All-Stars include: Clint Baker (various instruments), Leon Oakley (trumpet), Robert Young (reeds), Jim Klippert (trombone), Monte Reyes (guitar/banjo), and Bill Reinhart (bass). Student Night

Homework Schmomework! It's also Student Night on May 20th! Come blow off your studies and dance the night away with us! Enjoy the live music at a $5 discount for high school and college students who present a valid student ID at the door. That means it's only $10 for the drop-in lesson and dance (starting at 8:00) and $5 to come for the band only (starting at 9:00). What a deal! We hope to see some new faces de-stressing before finals at WNH!
